An unusual history book, set in and around Buriton

This publication tells the story of why, over thousands of years, chalk has been quarried and turned into lime.

The book provides a case history of Buriton, explaining why major quarries and lime works were established near the village in the nineteenth century and describing, with scores of old images from the Buriton Heritage Bank, how each part of the industrial process took place.

The book concludes with a brief description of the Chalk Pits as it is now, including the special qualities which make it an important Local Nature Reserve.
