Some of the early history of the Queen Elizabeth Country Park has been recorded by Mike Wearing in a set of notes for the Buriton Heritage Bank.
Mike was appointed Park Interpreter for the brand new Country Park in 1975 and moved into the flat in the Park Centre in time for the official opening in April 1976.
His notes recall other members of staff, the innovative concept of the Country Park, the Royal Opening of the Park and other occasions, the educational activities provided and other events, visits by celebrities and VIPs, some history of Butser Hill and details of wildlife and conservation work.
Copies of his notes can be viewed here: ‘The Wearing Papers”.
