Buriton’s Heritage project has, over a number of years, delivered a range of local records for safe custody in the County Records Office where anyone is able to access and study them.
Recent documents taken to Winchester include an original large cloth map of the Nursted Estate dating from when it was all being offered for sale in 1863.
Other highlights also relate to the Nursted area, including two large vellum documents from around 1790 with references to the Hugonin family who had owned the Estate for over a hundred years until the sale in 1863.
Another delicate document deposited in the Records Office provides Nursted accounts information dating from July 1715 with references to Mr Medleycott and Mr Hare with rent roll information referring to Mr Pratt, Mr Patrick, Mr Henley, Mr Hearst, Mr Windham, Mr Coker, Mr Attwood, Mr Rolfe, Mr Bradley and Mr Forster.
As usual, all the latest materials are being treated as ‘deposits’ (rather than as gifts) so that Buriton is able to borrow them back at any time (eg. for exhibitions in the village or local research etc).
