Famous people who have lived in the parish

This publication provides information about some of the famous people who have connections to the parish: John Goodyer, Edward Gibbon, the Bonham Carter family and Robert Lowth.

There are other local families of note (including the Shelleys, Bilsons, Legge and Seward families of Weston; the Cowpers, Cammels and Caves of Ditcham; the Hugonins and Bennions of Nursted; and the Hanburys of Buriton) but their stories are awaiting further research.   Can you help us?   If so, please email heritage@buriton.org.uk
